Lunch
About an hour before lunch I had a think bar- chocolate-coconut. I love these bars along with larabars… they taste awesome and only a few ingredients!
I had a sandwich for lunch- I made it with toasted sprouted grain bread, canola mayo, bruchetta, tofurky and cucumbers.
I had steamed cauliflower on the side!

steamed cauliflower is my ABSOLUTE favorite, it’s on the menu for tonight, yessss!
how would you describe tofurky? I’m curious about the taste, and I am eager to try, but the gray rubbery appearance is a little bit scary
hk- I love steamed cauliflower- it taste great just plain! Tofurky is actually one of the best fake meats I have had- its hard to describe but it does taste meaty to me- kind of a cross between turkey and ham! It also shreds similar to meat which makes it really feel like you are eating meat! Don’t be scared by the appearance… the tofurky “dogs” are really good too!
haha, Im not a vegetarian and I love tofurkey. I catch some flack for that. And soy dogs! mmmm
Do you make your own bruchetta?
Tofurky “meats” are eerily authentic, haha - the hickory-smoked flavor of the “turkey” is quite good on sandwiches, indeed!!
Brianne, your bruschetta looks incredible - I second Kelly T.’s request of knowing whether or not you make your own, because it sounds fabulous!!
Steamed vegetables = VeggieGirl obsession
what a yummy looking sandwich!
okay…honestly how was the tofurky??? I’ve been a vegetarian back and forth for years and never got up to trying that one. it just looked creepy. I would LIKE to try it though if it tastes really good because that would be great to make sandwiches to take to work!! Let me know what you thought!!!
I still haven’t tried Tofurky either! But your sandwich looks pretty spectacular with that pile of bruschetta!
Oh, and steamed vegetables = Ruby Red obsession too! Steamed cauliflower has to be one of the better steamed ones, though - it gets so soft and just melts in your mouth!
That Brianne for the info about cholorinated washes. What makes non-natural detergents so dangerous?
Also, you seem so ideally balanced and laid back. I constantly learn about what we should avoid (plastics, non natural detergents, grilling meat on too high a temp, etc.) and quit frankly it stresses me out and I become constantly worried with whether what I am eating is safe. There are too many restrictions. How do you learn about all this stuff and not let it get to you? Thanks!
Sorry just to add, how do you keep up with what what products to buy and avoid?
Kelly T and VeggieGirl- unfortunately no, i don’t make my own bruchetta… I bought it from the Planet Organic deli! I cheated- it was 50 % off because they needed to sell it. It is so great on sandwiches!
Jenna and Red Ruby Vegan- try tofurky! I bet you’ll like it… I even prefer it to real meat!
Marcy- I’m glad I could help! =) Basically I don’t like regular detergents and cleaners because of the harsh chemicals and fragrances… I became interested in keeping a natural home when I became pregnant. Conventional detergents use chemicals to “clean” that stay on the clothes which we then breathe in and wear on our bodies. Here is a good site that explains a bit more-
http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/05/07/06/the_toxic_dangers_of_typical_laundry_detergent.htm
There are a lot of really great natural cleaners that don’t use harsh chemicals. My personal favorite is Ecover. I find their products to be the best!
I try hard not to get too worried but sometimes I find I am mad at the world- the conventional way of doing things is often unhealthy compared to the alternative (pesticides vs. organic, etc). I just try and so the best I can at the time… like with diapers. I would love to buy the chlorine free ones all the time but they are more than regular old pampers so I do a bit of both. I know I can’t be perfect and sometimes I have to let go (like when out at a restaurant). A really great site is http://www.ewg.org/ they are always doing studies and testing out potential dangers. Check it out! I read a lot… and google a lot!
hi I just found your blog! (I never knew why some people’s names were hilighted!). Anyway, TRY the cranberry & stuffing tofurkey deli slices…they are excellent on good whole grain bread with some cream cheese (as per their serving suggestion) and cucumber… or extra cranberry sauce.
